With our purpose serving as our guiding North Star, Lamp Rynearson proudly celebrates 65 years of ‘Leaving a Legacy’ this year. Over the decades, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to creating enduring improvements and fostering positive impacts within our communities. One shining example of our legacy in action is the ongoing Aquatics project in the City of Cameron, Missouri. Since 1982, Cameron has been a testament to the enduring value and influence of Lamp Rynearson’s dedication and expertise. This project not only showcases our commitment to excellence but also highlights the long-lasting relationships and transformative contributions we have made to the communities we serve. As we reflect on our rich history, we are inspired to continue building a future where our legacy of innovation, integrity, and community contribution thrives for generations to come.
The City’s original swimming pool was constructed in 1938 and operated for 44 years. When the pool aged out, Lamp Rynearson (then Larkin Aquatics) was hired to assist with the engineering for the new Olympic-sized pool project in 1982. After another almost 40 years of splendid summer memories created within the 1982 pool, the City decided it was time for an update.
At the beginning of the rebuild process, Lamp Rynearson Aquatics Group Leader Andy Smith, PE, provided the Cameron Park Board with information about the state of the 1982 facility and the cost difference between making repairs and the construction of a new pool. “It is feasible to keep repairing the pool, but the question remains, ‘Is it a wise way to spend your money?’” Smith prompted the board in 2016. “I think in the long-term, to provide for the Cameron community, it is time to start putting money into a new facility.” And Cameron, Missouri did just that.
The City of Cameron approved a bond issue to fund a new swimming pool with sales tax revenue, proving their dedication to a state-of-the-art aquatic facility that will provide generations of entertainment for the community. This project replaced the existing 50 m tank from 1982 with two bodies of water, one for leisure and play, and the other for competitive swimming.
Throughout the entirety of the project, affordability was considered. With that in mind, the existing bathhouse from 1982 was remodeled instead of rebuilt. Included in the reconfiguration of this space are a new standing-seam metal roof and a building extension to add a larger concessions space. The new roof and bathhouse paint color selections are now fun, beach-themed colors to add to the aquatics space.
Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony, the City welcomed its new pool during the summer of 2022. The Cameron swimming pool offers something for everyone – whether they want a lazy day in the sun or some focused laps around the pool.
The entire project was accomplished by the collaboration of the City and Lamp Rynearson. It is one of the various testaments of our legacy and our mission – to leave an enduring legacy for our communities. In our 65th year, we are excited to continue working with Cameron, Missouri. Even more exciting is all the potential future partnerships Lamp Rynearson can have with all the communities we serve!
