Omaha, Nebraska
In 2000 the City of Omaha began a multiphase Nicholas Street sewer project to reduce pollution in the nearby river by separating sanitary and storm sewers. The Nicholas Street Sewer Extension Phase 3B concludes the large-scale separation project. The final area of the project spans North along 16th Street from Charles Street to Pinkney Street. Extension or replacement consisted of 4,200 feet of storm sewer in varying sizes from 54 inches to 84 inches in diameter and 6,250 Feet of 12-inch sanitary sewer. Sewers that were sometimes 10 – 16 feet deeper than normal, abandoned sanitary sewer service lines, and a narrow project corridor were some of the challenges of this project site.
Chosen for design, survey, and construction administration of the final Phase 3B, Lamp Rynearson professionals provided the same services for the newly constructed street corridor. Improvements included on-street parking, improved pedestrian safety, accessibility, and green spaces. The utilities also received upgrades to the gas, cable, and fiber optic lines. Through careful communication with the City, commercial, industrial, and residential stakeholders this project has been deemed a success and improves the infrastructure for generations to come.
