Lamp Rynearson Names Chad Thompson as Public Practice Lead for Kansas City Design Team

Strong communities are built through collaboration, trust, and leadership rooted in service. At Lamp Rynearson, those principles guide how we partner with public agencies and the communities they serve. In that spirit, we are proud to announce that Chad Thompson has been named Public Practice Lead for our Kansas City Design Team.

Nearly Three Decades of Public Infrastructure Leadership

Chad brings nearly 30 years of engineering experience, including 20 years with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, where he primarily served within the Public Works Department. During his tenure, he managed multi-million-dollar capital improvement projects spanning roadway, bridge, geometric design, storm sewer, traffic signal systems, street lighting, water, and sanitary sewer infrastructure.

His experience also includes grant application writing and leading projects funded through federal Local Public Agency (LPA) programs, equipping him with deep insight into the complexities of publicly funded infrastructure delivery.

Chad is a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri, Kansas, and Indiana, and holds the designation of Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV-SP)—underscoring his commitment to resilient, community-focused infrastructure solutions.

Projects That Shape Communities

Throughout his career, Chad has served as both project manager and program manager on impactful projects across the Kansas City region, including:

  • 18th and Vine Pedestrian Plaza
  • 63rd Street Reconstruction
  • Kenneth Road Bridge
  • Downtown Streetcar Improvements
  • 135th Street Improvements

In addition to transportation improvements, his leadership has supported parks, trails, and stormwater master planning efforts, helping communities plan for long-term resilience, accessibility, and growth.

Leadership Rooted in Collaboration

“Chad leads with both technical expertise and a genuine commitment to collaboration,” said Regan Pence, Kansas City Office Leader. “His approach reflects who we are as a firm—working alongside our clients, listening first, and delivering solutions that create lasting value.”

Advancing Public Practice in Kansas City

In his new role as Public Practice Lead, Chad will focus on:

  • Strengthening client partnerships
  • Mentoring and developing team members
  • Advancing projects that align with Lamp Rynearson’s purpose of leaving a legacy of enduring improvements to the communities we serve

His leadership will play a key role in the continued growth of our Kansas City design practice and in supporting public agencies as trusted partners in infrastructure delivery.
