Boys Town Education Center

Boys Town, Nebraska

The Boys Town Education Center project stands as a testament to Lamp Rynearson’s commitment to creating people-oriented, inclusive, and functional outdoor environments through landscape architecture. As the primary landscape architecture consultant, Lamp Rynearson was responsible for the site layout, grading design, planting design, and the creation of amenity spaces that support the educational mission of Boys Town. The design team worked closely with the architectural team to ensure seamless integration between interior and exterior spaces, resulting in a campus that feels cohesive and welcoming for students in grades four through twelve.

A key focus of the landscape architecture scope was the development of outdoor classrooms, play areas, and an entrance plaza—spaces that extend learning and social opportunities beyond the building walls. The design responded to the unique challenges of the historic Boys Town campus, including significant elevation changes and the need to tie new site elements into the existing context of adjacent, historically important buildings. The team’s approach required careful grading and thoughtful placement of outdoor amenities to ensure accessibility, safety, and a sense of belonging for all users.

Throughout the project, Lamp Rynearson’s landscape architects demonstrated a deep understanding of the site’s constraints and opportunities. By prioritizing close coordination with the architectural team from DLR and respecting the campus’s legacy, the design not only addressed technical challenges but also enhanced the daily experience of students and staff. The result is a vibrant, functional, and inspiring educational environment that supports Boys Town’s mission and leaves a lasting legacy for the community.
