Elkhorn High Schools Athletic Facilities
Lamp Rynearson partnered with Elkhorn Public Schools to deliver a transformative series of athletic facility upgrades across three Elkhorn High School campuses, encompassing a total of nine fields. The $6.8 million project, substantially completed in late 2024, focused on converting the infield of three softball fields and three baseball fields to state-of-the-art synthetic turf. In addition, three practice fields—previously natural grass, including two open grass areas and one field inside a track—were also converted to synthetic turf, significantly enhancing durability, playability, and year-round usability for student-athletes.
Beyond turf installation, the project scope included comprehensive improvements to field infrastructure. At Elkhorn High, the softball facility underwent a complete transformation with new backstops, dugouts, concrete walkways, bullpens, and expanded spectator seating areas. Across all fields, synthetic turf bullpens were installed, and field event areas, such as the discus throw and long jump, were reconfigured to optimize athletic performance and safety. The project also incorporated storm sewer systems for adequate drainage and facilitated lighting modifications, ensuring the facilities meet modern standards for both competition and practice.
Executing this ambitious project across three separate high school sites within a single year presented unique challenges. The Lamp Rynearson team expertly navigated a complex schedule, coordinating construction around school athletic seasons—completing softball fields in the spring, baseball in the fall, and practice fields during summer breaks. Additional complexities included retrofitting existing infrastructure, relocating field events, and working over a geothermal well field. Close collaboration with Elkhorn Public Schools and careful phasing ensured minimal disruption to school activities, resulting in a successful delivery that elevates the athletic experience for students and the community.
