A Pandemic, a Job Search, and a Happy Landing

Like so many people who entered the workforce during COVID, Becca wasn’t exactly shopping around with a long wish list. “I was just hoping to land a position relatively applicable to my degree,” she admits. What she found at Lamp Rynearson turned out to be a whole lot more than that.

Five years later, she’s not just still here. She’s thriving. And when you ask her why she stayed, the answer comes quickly: culture. “I feel very fortunate to have landed at Lamp,” she says, and the way she talks about her team makes it easy to believe her.

The Project That Pushed Her Further

Ask Becca about her favorite project from the past year and she’ll tell you it’s hard to choose, but one rises to the top: the North Omaha Trail.

It’s not just the scope of the work that made it stand out, though that was genuinely unique. It was the collaboration, the stakeholders, the challenge of stepping into new responsibilities and discovering she was more capable than she realized. “This project challenged me to take on new responsibilities and stretch my skills in ways that helped me grow professionally,” she says.

But what really lights her up is the impact. The North Omaha Trail will expand transportation choices and improve connectivity for North Omaha residents, creating safe, dedicated spaces for people to walk, bike, and move through their community. That’s the kind of work that sticks with you. That’s the kind of work that reminds you why you chose engineering in the first place.

Still Learning. Still Growing. Still Curious.

Here’s something that says a lot about Becca: after five years, she still feels like she’s learning something new every day. That’s not a complaint. That’s her favorite part.

“I’ve been here five years and I still feel like I am consistently learning new things,” she says. “I have enjoyed this continuous growth and challenge and want to continue to expand my skills and knowledge going forward.”

In a field that rewards curiosity and rewards people who lean into complexity, that mindset is exactly what makes someone like Becca so valuable, not just to a project, but to a team.

The Memories That Matter Most

When asked about her best memory at Lamp Rynearson, Becca laughs a little before answering. There have been project wins, teambuilding activities, conference experiences, and more moments than she can count. But when she really thinks about it, the answer isn’t a single event.

“My favorite part of working here is how much our coworkers, the design group especially, genuinely enjoy each other, care about what’s going on in each other’s lives, and want each other to succeed.”

When She’s Not Engineering

When Becca steps away from the office, you’ll likely find her outside. Hiking, camping, gardening, swimming, or simply sitting still long enough to remember what quiet feels like. “There’s something special about unplugging, sitting around a campfire under the stars, and being reminded of how simple life can feel when you step away from the daily routine,” she says.

It’s a good reminder that the people who do the most meaningful work are often the ones who know how to rest, recharge, and reconnect with what matters.
