Congratulations to Marc Marean, GIS Specialist, for one year at Lamp Rynearson.
After working in state government, Marc felt he was missing the variety of tasks within projects that come with working for a private business. He was looking for a change of pace and immediately recognized the communal feel of the staff and was impressed by projects that Lamp Rynearson has been a part of and continues to partner with.
Throughout the year, Marc has been a part of many projects already. Among his favorites, the Papillion-Vista Community Schools Playground Assessment project stands out as being impactful from start to finish. He enjoyed the project’s scope being focused on future play and recreational opportunities for students while prioritizing accessible options for all. This project was a great learning experience as Marc could ask some spatial questions regarding data collection and apply that evaluation to future opportunities within the local school districts.
One of his favorite memories with the company thus far is a project from the Omaha Land Bank. The Lamp Rynearson team worked on a project evaluating some of the lands they own, and Marc was able to help collaborate with mapping. At the end of the project, the client was blown away by the work quality from the Lamp Rynearson team and wrote a personal thank you note to the team.
Marc said, “This is one of the first times in my career that someone reached out to thank me by name for our contributions to the community. That moment reiterated the importance of the work we do here and the impact we directly have on communities. That will always be a special moment for me in my career.”
Marc is excited to see where GIS is moving and for all the opportunities that will arise with 3D modeling, deep learning, and data collection methodologies. He is constantly looking into creating accessible maps for all audiences, creating an inclusive and safe environment in Lamp Rynearson design. He would like to become more involved in the communities he has the privilege of serving in his position. One of his long-term goals is to make it on Omaha’s 40 under 40 list.
Marc is a massive fan of Newcastle United and enjoys catching games early in the morning during the season. Year-round, Marc enjoys fly fishing, finding small-town restaurants, attending sporting events, and doing housework with his wife.
Cheers, Marc!
