Sarpy County, Nebraska
With the quickly developing area of Sarpy County between 180th Street and 192nd Street, infrastructure upgrades were needed to handle the increased development and the resultant increase in traffic on the roadways. Lamp Rynearson was selected to handle the planning, design, permitting, and construction administration of the improvements of Cornhusker Road from 180th Street to 192nd Street.
Cornhusker Road was an existing 2-lane gravel road that was designed to be widened to a 3-lane paved roadway. A portion of the corridor was designed as a 3-lane urban concrete paving section with curb and gutter and the remaining portion designed as a 3-lane rural concrete paving section. Lamp Rynearson completed the required hydraulic analysis and verification of the existing culverts along the roadway. As a result of the analysis and study, some existing culverts were shifted, extended, and/or resized. The design included two new unique box culverts as part of the project as well.
A nationwide 404 permit application was prepared for minor wetland impacts. Phasing was crucial to allow for homeowner access along the corridor and for construction and funding consideration. This included discussions with the Corp of Engineers regarding the overall impact for the project, within the phased construction approach. Plan approval was coordinated with both Sarpy County and the City of Gretna. Coordination with utilities in the area was part of the design process and the construction phases. To gain homeowner approval and sign-off, Lamp Rynearson assisted in Right of Way negotiations.
