As we approach the Fourth of July, I find myself thinking about the connection between fireworks and foundation, and how celebrating our foundation is such a vital part of our culture.
At Lamp Rynearson, we talk often about legacy—what we build, who we build it for, and the deeper “why” that carries our work forward. Independence Day gives us a chance to reflect on the foundations that allow us to do that work: freedom, responsibility, and the courage to imagine something better.
The Fourth of July reminds us that freedom is never static—it’s something shaped over time, by choices and commitments made across generations. As we reflect on where we are today, we also carry a responsibility to keep building—thoughtfully and with others in mind. That kind of belief system—steady, hopeful, and long-term—is what I see every day in our teams.
So, as you take time with loved ones this week, I hope you’ll also take a quiet moment to consider what you’re helping build—through your work, your community, your voice. Our legacy isn’t measured only in structures or plans; it’s in how we show up, how we listen, and how we contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
Wishing you a safe, meaningful Fourth of July,
Dave McIvor
