The comprehensive obstruction surveys have been completed in accordance with UFC 3-260-1 and are necessary for the military base to re-certify the airfield through the FAA. These surveys have been completed at over 25 facilities through the nation including most recently in Minnesota, Alabama, and Oklahoma.
Work involved has included preliminary research on the airfield including previous obstruction data, recent FAA 7460 submissions, and airfield classification and runway type. Following the completion of the field survey, Lamp Rynearson created a 3D airspace model and evaluated survey data to analyze obstructions. In this process, Airfield Obstruction Charts are created which graphically display the runway and other airfield features as well as the airspace and obstructions in both plan and profile views. Quality control is verified with the comparison of current and past airfield obstructions to determine if the obstructions are the same, new, or have been removed.
Following the obstruction analysis and preparation of the obstruction charts, the date is transmitted to the military base for obstruction mitigation, and to the USAASA for submittal to the FAA for certification.
