Dillon Starck glances out of the plane window, watching billowing clouds pass. His journey with Lamp Rynearson started in 2019 as an intern while attending college at Colorado State University. Now, as a Project Engineer, he is on his way to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to visit QuikTrip’s (QT) headquarters to further his connection with the QT team and expand his knowledge on civil design within the energy sector. QT is one of the nation’s leading convenience and gasoline retailers with a culture of giving back to the communities it serves.
Accompanied by his good friend and Project Manager Michael Palizzi, Dillon started his day with a swift trip through Denver International Airport, the scenery much different from a typical 8-5 day in the office. The airport’s towering white tents illuminated the edge of Colorado’s eastern plains. While Lamp Rynearson engineers often take day trips to local site visits, traveling out of state is far less frequent.
After landing in Tulsa, Dillon and Michael venture to the QT headquarters in Tulsa. The headquarters features amenities similar to the inside of a QT store, complete with fresh-to-order food, specialty drinks, and frozen treat selections. They fill their day with engineering training for QT projects, including water quality, site layout, and fuel canopies. After engaging with clients and discovering the community outreach QT participates in, they ended the day with local Tulsa dining.
Dillon returned from the trip feeling inspired and ready to continue bringing QT’s mission to life through his design. Energy sector projects have been a fundamental part of Dillon’s career at Lamp Rynearson, from designing an oil and gas pad site to creating a store site design for QT. Watching projects go from design to the construction phase is the most rewarding part of working at Lamp Rynearson.
Dillon has been a part of the Lamp Rynearson team in Fort Collins, Colorado, designing QT stores around the state’s mile-high city. We look forward to our continued partnership with QT as they expand into the mountain west!
