The year was 1999, and as the millennium came to a close, a new era began at Lamp Rynearson. Senior Project Designer Larry Lueders took a temp position as a CAD Designer in the Telecom Department. Soon after, Larry was asked to join our Transportation Group as a permanent employee. Recently engaged and planning to start a family, Larry accepted the offer and has never looked back.
During his first site visit to long-time Lamp Rynearson client Eppley Airfield, Larry was at the end of the runway and witnessed a Boeing 747 performing a touch-and-go.
“I was hooked. I have always liked airplanes, and the chance to work on airport projects was a great opportunity.”
One of Larry’s favorite projects in his 25 years has been the Eppley Airfield Front Drive and Canopy, a massive $65 million project to improve the airfield’s terminal drive and construct a new overhead structure that will span the area between the parking garage and terminal. Larry has most enjoyed drafting designs and creating the complex phasing plans needed for a project of this scope.
Even after 25 years of leaving a legacy of amazing airport work, Larry’s goal is to continue working on community-changing projects, creating beneficial structures and spaces that have a lasting impact on the public.
With so many years of memories and experiences at Lamp Rynearson, it’s hard for Larry to pick just one. At various times during on-site visits or while working in a construction administrative role, Larry feels fortunate to have experienced what he can only describe as his own personal airshow. From 747 touch-and-gos to F-18s taking off and going vertical, he’s had a front-row seat to observe how the projects he works on impact aircraft transportation, which has only deepened his love for airplanes.
When he’s not improving air travel infrastructure, Larry can be found at home building his own projects out of all kinds of materials, from wood to Legos. As an avid collector of Lego sets, Larry enjoys the creativity and complexity of constructing models. Congratulations, Larry, on 25 years of leaving a legacy!
