Lamp Rynearson provided comprehensive civil engineering services for the new Vehicle Maintenance Facility at Whiteman Air Force Base, located near Knob Noster, Missouri. Working under contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, the team delivered complete design services from the initial charrette through construction, including construction-phase support. The $23 million facility was designed to replace an outdated maintenance building and accommodate a wide range of government vehicles, from passenger cars and buses to fire trucks, airport tugs, and snow plows.

The single-story facility features dedicated high- and low-bay areas for servicing both large and small vehicles, administrative offices, a car wash, and extensive storage. Lamp Rynearson’s scope included site layout, heavy pavement design, parking for both personal and government vehicles, and significant utility coordination. The project required rerouting existing water and gas lines, extending new utilities, and designing complex sanitary systems with oil-water separators and lift stations to support the facility’s operational needs.

A key challenge was the detailed pavement design, which involved multiple pavement sections and thicknesses to accommodate varying vehicle loads while minimizing costs. Lamp Rynearson also provided survey services and addressed stormwater management for the expansive site. The result is a modern, efficient maintenance hub that supports the ongoing readiness and functionality of Whiteman Air Force Base’s diverse vehicle fleet.
